I decided to write my first post on this blog about makeup- I love reading other people’s favourite beauty picks. These products are super affordable as they’re drugstore (UK) Everything featured here is from my makeup bag, they work extremely well and I use them on a day to day basis. Enjoy!
1. Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation
This foundation is quite possibly my favourite. It’s smooth to apply and sits really nicely on your face without making it look ‘cakey’. The coverage is light to medium coverage and you can build it up really easily. To describe the formulation, I would say it’s not watery at all (which I like about it) and it’s not one of those really thick formulas where you feel it’s clogging up your pores. With it finishing with a natural, dewy look, I love this foundation and I have repurchased it only a few times as it lasts a long time (bonus!). Retailing for £7.99 at Superdrug, you can’t really go wrong with it.
2. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream
I have only recently discovered these as Boots in the UK decided to bless us with a new, huge NYX counter in their stores (best decision ever!). The colour I wanted to try out most was Copenhagen as I have heard really great reviews about it. I ended up purchasing both Copenhagen and Prague (a deep pink with purple undertones). The formulation of these lip creams is so interesting- it applies creamy and turns into a matte lipstick so nicely however, it doesn’t leave your lips feeling dry which is a huge plus. With pigmented lip colours and a flattering finish, these are probably my go-to lip colours. However, the only con I have is with Copenhagen- the colour isn’t as long lasting as Prague but nevertheless, when you reapply it goes on as nice as it does the first time. These retail for £5.50 so they’re super affordable and they have tons of colours available.
3. NYX Dewy Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray
Another NYX product!
I had never used a setting spray after applying my makeup before because I never got round to purchasing one. When I saw this in Boots I thought I’d give it a go and I’m now completely converted to using a setting spray! I really love how this product helps keep your makeup in place all day and leaves it with a really natural finish. For those of you with oily skin, I would say you could still probably use this- it does say ‘dewy’ however, I don’t really agree with that. I have combination skin and I find it’s neither matte or dewy- it’s in the middle. From using it for a good few months, it gives me a nice sheen to my skin and does what it says- sets your makeup. This retails for just £7.00.
4. Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
I have to admit, I am a little bit of a mascara hoarder. I love to try out different mascaras all the time to see which one ticks all of the boxes for me. This one I bought from Superdrug and it definitely does a great job! It separates my lashes whilst adding a lot of volume. The colour I have is black but they do an ‘intense black’,which I will be purchasing next. I love this mascara and the brush being slightly curved helps to get to all of your lashes both top and bottom. With amazing staying power, I would recommend this for anyone who likes a mascara that does everything it’s supposed to do! This retails for £7.99.
5. Real Techniques’ Miracle Complexion Sponge
I wish I would’ve purchased one of these so much earlier than I did! I was always into the Real Techniques brushes and I loved using them. The sponge allows you to apply it with a 360 degree application which for me, makes it stay on for a lot longer. It’s so versatile, making it easy for you to apply foundation, cream blushes, highlighter and even powder. For the best results, when applying anything liquid, dampen the sponge and with anything in powder form use it dry. Another thing I find useful is if I want a more natural finish, I simply spread the foundation across my face evenly with the sponge on the flat side only, and if I want a heavier coverage I use the “stippling” technique (This is simply pushing the sponge into your face dabbing the foundation in). Either works well and I always end with great results. These sponges retail for £5.99 each or you can get two for £9.99- they’re on offer most of the time too!
Thanks so much for reading and I’ll be back very soon with a brand new post.
