Friday Film: “The Nice Guys”

If you are in the mood of watching a hilarious comedy movie with a little bit of action that will get you roll on the floor laughing your heart out like I’m sure you did with “Central Intelligence” I suggested one month ago, then this is exactly what you are looking for. Of course this masterpiece couldn’t escape my list of favorites either.

Shane Black’s 2016 movie “The Nice Guys” was a successful comedy/action film  minding the critics and the ratings and rest assure that it deserved all of them big time. Shane Black is known for his work in many major movies including all four films of “Lethal Weapon”, “Iron Man 3” and “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”. This guy clearly knows what he is doing and how to do it and “The Nice Guys” didn’t escape his marvelous touch either.

The film is located in 1970s Los Angeles and the opening scene travels you to the supposable suicide of a porn star named Misty Mountains which is how our first main character Holland March (Ryan Gosling) enters the storyline. Holland is a licensed private investigator who is hired to look into the suicide of Misty Mountains and while doing that he is led to Amelia Kuttner (Margaret Qualley) who apparently has hired our next main character Jackson Healey (Russell Crowe), a rather not licensed private investigator, to look into the suicide of Misty Mountains. Jackson is a pathetic alcoholic guy whose wife died and left him alone with a child, Holly March (Angourie Rice), who is the kind that just can’t leave her father do his job without sticking her nose into literally everything.

Both Gosling and Crowe are two strong characters who make the funny scenes even funnier. Gosling is apparently not that good at his job because he is easily scared and more easily carried away by his sloppiness. And don’t even think of giving this man a drink because he will lose it in no time even if it’s just a glass of wine. And don’t get me started on his mustache. Russell Crowe on the other hand thinks he has the exact amount of scariness needed for his job and always tries to keep a straight face through everything that will make you lose yours. And don’t judge his parenting abilities because this guy clearly doesn’t have a clue on how to raise a 13 year old child.

“The Nice Guys” provides you with the right amount of funny and action scenes all mixed up in a way that makes this movie one of the best comedies of 2016. The story is far from well-written and the development is smooth and blended along with all the unfortunate and hilarious events that take place throughout it. And of course the mystery that comes along with all these is the kind one that will hook you on the entire movie in a way that you might not even blink just to be sure you won’t miss any clue.

The fact that this movie has it all is what makes it even more perfect to watch on a nice summer weekend. And if you were looking for something hilariously funny with one dumb character and another impulsive one working together on a mystery case, this is what you are looking for because these two make the perfect couple for a comedy film based on the 1970s which implies that even their looks and clothing are funny enough for their even more hilarious characters.

And if you don’t believe me, check it out and see for yourselves.

I’ll be back next Friday with another one of my favorite movies that you must watch.

Until then, leave your comments below and let us know what your thoughts on this movie are and if you enjoyed watching it.
