Friday Film: “The Hitman’s Bodyguard”

When these two incredible actors met on screen, the result was this epic, fantastic, funny, magnificent and breathtaking action/comedy movie that is fresh and already in my favorite-movies list. This is the only film you need to watch this weekend.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard” is Patrick Hughes2017 action movie that got released a few weeks ago and is even better than the trailer had promised us. It is the best film Patrick Hughes has made so far, considering his previous works are not even close to the hilarious lines and scenes this movie carries nor to the action that comes along with it. He is known for “Expendables 3” and “Red Hill” mostly, and if you have not watched those yet, start with this movie because this is something that will truly motivate you to begin placing his works in your movie list.

The film stars Ryan Reynolds as Michael Bryce, a (as he says) “triple-A rated executive agent”, in other words “bodyguard”, whose carrier took the downhill after his inability to successfully protect one of his clients. While his life is completely ruined by that, his ex-girlfriend Amelia (Elodie Yung), who is an Interpol agent, asks him to protect a convict hitman named Darius Kincaid, portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson, who has to remain alive until the time comes to testify against Vladislav Dukhovich (Gary Oldman), the dictator of Belarus.

The minute Patrick Hughes put these two actors in the same room, the movie became more epic than it already was. The chemistry between these two actors is marvelous and it is exactly what makes this film so damn good. Furthermore, the comic element, that defines Ryan Reynolds, meets Samuel L. Jackson’s villainous humor and they both collide and result in many hilarious scenes that you will remember and laugh with them even after the ending of the movie. Plus, the fact that these two actors play two completely different characters is what makes every scene even more memorable and unique. Reynolds is the good guy who always has plans in order to accomplish his job’s goals while Jackson is doing what he is doing his way, without thinking, without planning and his goal is to simply enjoy it. Imagine what will happen the moment they decide to prove who is better than whom.

The storyline is definitely something we have never watched before and it did not remind me of any other movie whatsoever, mostly because it included great character developments and originality on the whole concept from the top to the bottom. Nevertheless, we have seen a lot of movies centered on criminals who are forced to run because they are being chased but we have never seen a bodyguard protecting a high-class hitman while being at the same time served with the most hilarious lines inside the even more hilarious scenes.

Apart from the comic element, I have to point out the amazing action this film offers. A lot of car-chasing with a lot of explosions and gun shots are what these action scenes are made of. Moreover, while you are busy laughing your heart out throughout every funny line, conversation, scene or expression from these two awesome actors, you suddenly start getting really worked up by the incredibly long and crazy action scenes. In addition to that, you do not lose one bit of them because the camera is focused precisely on what you need to see, instead of delivering you the usual bad camera-shaking action scenes most of the action movies have.

And while I am blabbing about how amazing this movie is, are you still here reading this? Watch “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” in theaters while you still can because this movie is made for the big screen and if you make the mistake and watch it after its DVD release, you will realize how wrong you were choosing to not having watched it in the cinemas and live the experience that comes along with it.

I will be back next Friday with another one of my favorite movies that you must watch.

Until then, leave your comments below and let us know what your thoughts on this movie are and if you enjoyed watching it.
