What would happen if one day you woke up inside someone else’s body? Would you prefer that change or totally hate it? And what if you woke up to a completely different life in which you have endless responsibilities and you simply cannot keep up with them?
For this week’s suggestion, I have one of my favourite comedy films that I have re-watched like ten times or so. “The Change-Up” is David Dobkin’s 2011 comedy movie that reminds us of “Freaky Friday” but is way better than the latter, which targeted the teenage audience and therefore focused on a child-friendly tone. Of course, we have experienced a lot of David Dobkin’s masterpieces, including “The Judge”, “Wedding Crashers” and “Shanghai Knights”.
Although Mich (Ryan Reynolds) and Dave (Jason Bateman) might have been inseparable best friends since they were children, they gradually grew apart growing up. Dave is currently a husband and a father of three children and at the same time he is a hard-working lawyer. Mich on the other hand is a lazy single man-child who has zero responsibilities and never cared about having any. One night, after a reunion over a couple of drinks, the unthinkable happens.
Witnessing these two incredible actors interacting on screen and trying to incarnate one another is something you do not get to watch often. Jason Bateman flawlessly succeeds in impersonating Ryan Reynolds’ character and vice versa. It is uniquely astounding to watch these too completely different characters swap bodies and lives and these two amazing actors made that seem even more awesome than we expected, considering the fact that you actually feel throughout the movie that Ryan Reynolds is indeed inside Jason Bateman’s body and the other way around. Adding their unique and hilarious chemistry to that, you have the perfect recipe for a great comedy movie.
Apart from the great acting, “The Change-Up” is filled with hilarious and entertaining scenes and lines. They are the kind ones that remain funny no matter how many times you watch the movie – they never get old. And who would not expect that from actors like Bateman and Reynolds who are actually the ones who make these lines and scenes so amazingly funny. Moreover, the fact that everyone can relate to these two characters – whether it is a single guy enjoying his expendable freedom or a married mother fed up with trying to balance and accomplish everything in a 24hour daily basis – is what makes this movie appealing to any type of audience – except children, of course.
This weekend, you have the chance to relax and enjoy a great and amazingly funny movie. Have some friends over and try out “The Change-Up”, which will definitely succeed in making you laugh your head off and actually have a great time.
I’ll be back next Friday with another one of my favorite movies that you must watch.
Until then, leave your comments below and let us know what your thoughts on this movie are and if you enjoyed watching it.
