Friday Film: “The Internship”

This week I am going to take you four years back to an amazing comedy film starring the most iconic comic duo ever in maybe the second most awesome movie they have ever starred in.

I am talking about the Shawn Levy’s 2013 comedy film “The Internship”, which was so much anticipated from my part at that time and it was even more rewarding than I expected. Shawn Levy is also responsible for many more awesome creations including “Real Steel”, “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb”, “Just Married” and “The Pink Panther”. Of course I cannot ignore the fact that the storyline is written by Vince Vaughn himself, which makes total sense considering that the trailer of the movie had me on pins and needles waiting for the actual film to come out. This guy knows exactly what he is doing.

Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) and Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson) are two unsatisfied salesmen who got caught up in the middle of the digital world for which they have zero skills. Trying to prove that they are not completely obsolete and clueless when it comes to technology, they decide to apply for an internship at Google where they will find themselves competing among young students who are, of course, more skilled and qualified for this kind of internship.

Having to talk about these two amazing actors is not something that I felt like I had to do in order to make clear to you how great this film is, because I think that everyone can appreciate these two guys together on the screen. But I cannot get past this when it is the most important thing that made this movie so freaking epic. The chemistry between Wilson and Vaughn is the reason we watch their movies and although we already know how well they work together, we have never seen them working on such an interesting script. And if you give these two gentlemen the right script to work on, they can perform miracles. This is exactly what happened in this movie and not only did they nail it, but also they gave us so many hilarious scenes than all of their films combined. Plus, these two do not even need to do anything in order to make you laugh. Their existence in our screens is more than enough, don’t you think?

Next and equally important fact to the above is the storyline which I already pointed out. Apart from the fact that it is written by Vaughn, you can clearly distinguish the differences between this story and every other story we have watched in various comedy films. Watching two not-so-much-old guys trying to blend in with other undeniably-young students and make their way into a whole new world dominated by technology is as controversial as it actually sounds. And that storyline is what inspired these two fools and made them perform all these laughable scenes which are even more hilarious when you add the Vaughn-Wilson goofy element we all love and appreciate. Imagine being in their shoes, trying to make yourself – and others – believe that you can handle such a change and that you know your stuff when, in reality, you are completely ignorant and incapable of keeping up with all these. Or are you really?

If you could not decide which movie to watch this weekend, now you know what to do. Watch “The Internship” starring two amazing comedians that can make you laugh your heart out just by standing still and doing nothing and appreciate this film more than me, because it is a masterpiece.

I’ll be back next Friday with another one of my favorite movies that you must watch.

Until then, leave your comments below and let us know what your thoughts on this movie are and if you enjoyed watching it.
