Friday Film: “Spy”

Since I have zero favourite New Year’s Eve films I chose the next best thing which is a lot better, way funnier than anything I could choose to suggest and the most enjoyable film you could possibly watch for – probably – the last film of the year 2017.

Starring among other big names my favourite Melissa McCarthy, “Spy” is Paul Feig’s 2015 comedy/action film that offers you equal amounts of comedy and action. Paul Feig has made a lot of other incredible works with Melissa McCarthy including “The Heat”, “Ghostbusters” and “Bridesmaids”, so you can rest assure that this one is another memorable and worthwhile film of his. Furthermore, what more would someone want for a smooth weekend right before 2018 hits us? A movie that offers you the best hilarious scenes in between the even more awesome action scenes is exactly what you need for putting a nice closure to this year.

Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) is a deskbound CIA analyst whose responsibilities include being the eyes and ears of her partner Bradley Fine (Jude Law) who is out there in the combat field while she is not. When he falls off the grid and another agent is compromised, Susan volunteers to go undercover and infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer in order to prevent a probable global crisis.

First, let’s take a moment and appreciate the casting choice here, among them also some other names I did not mention such as Rose Byrne and Jason Statham. I am sure you can only imagine what a movie filled with these talented actors will look like. Apart from the fact that everyone actually blend in together really smoothly and beautifully, this cast has much more to offer you than you expect. The hilariously goofy moves of McCarthy combined with her funny hysterical nature and the mysterious aura that surrounds Rose Byrne are some of the elements that make their relationship the most interesting one in a way which make you ask for more. Plus, did I mention who these two actresses are?

Knowing McCarthy, I am sure I do not need to explain to you how funny this film is and if you do not know her, I have no clue how you can actually go by without having experienced any of her marvelous acts. Instead, I believe it is necessary for me to point out the action and the mystery included in this film, which are the main elements that have you on pins and needles throughout it and what actually make it a masterpiece of its kind. In fact, this is exactly what separates this movie from any other one McCarthy has starred in so far. Action scenes filled with incredibly hilarious moments from a not-for-combat-trained agent while various unreasonable events are happening to a CIA agent who is clueless of what she is doing, are some of the many unique and astounding things that surround the action scenes of this film. Add some mystery plot to that and you have the perfect recipe for a movie that will make it to the top of your list of favourites.

Almost three years have passed since its first release and yet “Spy” is what you need in your lives and what I needed to inform you about in my last film review of the year. Watching it this weekend is the best way to say goodbye to this year and an even better way to welcome the new one.

Have fun and Happy New Year, loves.

See you next year with even more great films from the previous years and many more incredible new ones.

Until then, leave your comments below and let us know what your thoughts on this movie are and if you enjoyed watching it.
