Friday Film: “Battleship”

A lot of you must have already watched this awesome film but I just could not help myself not suggesting it to people who have not. One of my favourite action movies which still is an enjoyable one to watch at any given time. Considering I am not a big fan of action movies and yet I have already watched this at least three times, you can rest assure that you will love it as much as I did.

From director Peter Berg known for various action films including “Friday Night Lights”, “Lone Survivor”, “The Kingdom”, “Deepwater Horizon” and “Hancock”, “Battleship” is the 2012 action/adventure masterpiece which reminds us a bit of the “Independence Day” combined with the “War of the Worlds” movies, only this time the action is also centered in the sea. The most impressive fact about “Battleship”, though, is that it is based on Hasbro’s classic naval combat game.

Two brothers, Lieutenant Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) and Commander Stone Hopper (Alexander Skarsgård), are serving on a naval war ship under the command of Admiral Shane (Liam Neeson) when suddenly they encounter an alien armada which needs to get destroyed before the world faces a major extinction.

While “Battleship” got some really negative critic reviews when it got released, the audience seems to have loved it. And how can you not love it? First and foremost, we are talking about an action/adventure film and when it comes to that, this movie has everything a one of its kind needs to have: suspense, amazing sound effects, great non-stop action scenes, interesting storyline, aliens and a hardcore naval war ship with the most bad-ass crew. At least for me, these are enough to make me want to watch this movie again and again, especially when they are all combined in such an astounding way, which is in fact what makes this film as epic and enjoyable as it is.

As for the second and most marvelous element this film has to offer you, is the great casting and the acting of these amazing people. You can never get bored of a strict and serious Liam Neeson who always startles and scares us considering he can easily do that without even having to move a single muscle. And even the two Hoppers are perfectly delivering their roles while facing a crisis with which you can totally relate because of the agony and fear Kitsch and Skarsgård are constantly bringing out. Of course, apart from the cast I have already mentioned above, I cannot leave Rihanna out of it since she remains gorgeous even when she has to play such a bad-ass role, which she achieved in delivering perfectly despite the fact that this was her first major acting role in a film.

“Battleship” is a well-done made action movie, the perfect one for you to watch with your friends during the weekend. Of course, for all of you who have already watched it, I am sure you can totally understand why I am suggesting that you should re-watch this incredible film. Prepare for battle and have fun, darlings.

I’ll be back next Friday with another one of my favorite movies that you must watch.

Until then, leave your comments below and let us know what your thoughts on this movie are and if you enjoyed watching it.
