Friday Film: “A Quiet Place”

The brand new horror movie which I chose to watch because I thought it would be funny and not good at all, turned out to be really good and decent and it actually entered my list of favourites right away.

A Quiet Place” is the new 2018 horror movie, which reminded me a little bit of “Don’t Breathe” mixed with the 2008 horror filmCloverfield”. John Krasinski apart from starring in the movie along with his wife in real life, Emily Blunt, he is also the director of this brilliant movie, which, for many people, might seem weird considering he is a comedian who chose to direct a horror film but the outcome was magnificent and very worth-to-watch. John Krasinski has also directed two other movies, “The Hollars” and “Brief Interviews with Hideous Men” but do not let the concept of these two put you in the wrong direction because his new work is much better than his previous ones.

Lee Abbott (John Krasinski,  “The Office”, “Away We Go”, “The Hollars”, “13 Hours) and Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt,  “Edge of Tomorrow”, “The Girl on the Train”, “The Adjustment Bureau”, “Looper) are a married couple with three children, who are forced to live in silence in order to survive in a world where there are some weird creatures that hunt by sound.

The first and foremost invaluable trait this film has is the acting of all four main characters. In a movie where there are limited dialogs, imagine how hard it is for the actors to get the message across or even get you attached to what they are experiencing. It turned out that, for these four actors, this was not something they made them struggle. Furthermore, this is the exact reason why you actually get chills down your spine and why you are experiencing the same anguish as the main characters. Nevertheless, the sound effects and the sound editing of this movie would not be so effective to the audience if it were not for the suspense and the atmosphere these four actors are establishing perfectly well throughout the film.

Moreover, the main theme of the movie is what excited me the most. After so many films and TV shows based on the need of survival in a post-apocalyptic world, whether that is filled with creatures or not, I had always wondered how it would be like if the creatures could hear your footsteps or the mere sound of your breathing. How hard would it be to think of choices to escape and survive in a film like this? This is exactly the reason why “A Quiet Place” was so brilliant and so unique when it comes to the storyline and its development. In addition to that, there are no unanswered questions until you reach the ending of this great film despite the fact that you start with so many questions which you think will not get answered in the duration of one hour and thirty minutes of the movie.

“A Quiet Place” is the kind of movie that you need to experience inside a movie theatre. Go watch it as soon as possible and experience the full agony of not being able to make a single sound unless you want to die.

I will be back next Friday with another one of my favorite movies that you must watch.

Until then, leave your comments below and let us know what your thoughts on this movie are and if you enjoyed watching it.
