Friday Film: “Molly’s Game”

I have always thought that I probably chose a completely wrong job career but I have never thought of the possibility of doing something so easy like this and actually being able to earn so much money out of it. But, let’s face it, who would be so lucky doing something like this and get away with it?

In the 2018 biography/crime movie “Molly’s Game”, Molly seems to have already found an answer to every unsettling question someone might have minding her career choices. This outstanding film is the directing debut of Aaron Sorkin, who managed to bring Molly Bloom’s book titled “Molly’s Game: The True Story of the 26-Year-Old Woman Behind the Most Exclusive, High-Stakes Underground Poker Game in the Worldto life, in such an amazing way that I was actually unable to let go of it at 5 a.m. in the morning in order to go and get myself some sleep. Aaron Sorkin is mostly known for his works as a writer in various movies, including “Steve Jobs”, “A Few Good Men” and “The Social Network”.

Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain,  “Zero Dark Thirty”, “The Martian”, “Interstellar) is a beautiful young Olympic-class skier who, after an unfortunate accident, was unable to continue her skiing career. Therefore, she decides to move to Los Angeles where she finds a job as a waitress and this is where another job opportunity will knock her door and change her life for good.

I rarely choose to watch biography films but this is by far the best one I have ever watched. Starting with the great directing work, the interesting story and the luxurious and appealing tone of the film, you simply cannot pause even for one second without knowing what happens next especially if you are not familiar with the true story behind the movie as I was. Moreover, the way the story is told through Jessica Chastain’s narration is somewhat funny and interesting at the same time. It is blatantly obvious that a story like this could not have been depicted on the big screen in any other way than this one, making this film the best book adaptation I have ever watched.

In addition to the above, I cannot ignore the amazing acting of the two main actors of the film. Jessica Chastain supported the role in such an astounding way and she was actually the main reason that had me on pins and needles throughout the whole movie, wanting for more. Idris Elba (Thor”, “Luther”, “The Dark Tower) , portraying her lawyer Charlie Jaffey, was right next to her, making her stand out so easily and taking my breath away like he always does, making the already interesting storyline even more awesome. Furthermore, the chemistry between these two is the reason you get attached to both these characters and especially to Molly Bloom and her amazing and breathtaking story.

If you are interested to find out what happened to Molly Bloom or what her amazing story is about, watch “Molly’s Game”. There is no other way you can learn everything you want to know about her but this amazing film.

I will be back next Friday with another one of my favorite movies that you must watch.

Until then, leave your comments below and let us know what your thoughts on this movie are and if you enjoyed watching it.
