Friday Film: “The Time Traveler’s Wife”

One of the most romantic films I have ever watched that still never ceases to amaze me. Would not it be better if you knew beforehand who the person you will spend the rest of your life with is? Who is that special one who is your other half? But how is this even possible?

A film that can be seen as a better version of “Click,” “The Time Traveler’s Wife” undoubtedly did it better when it comes to controlling your love life. The film was first released in 2009, and it involves a little bit of sci-fi content that makes it unique and special. The director Robert Schwentke knows precisely how the romantic films work although this was his second attempt in such kinds of movies. He is mostly known for his work on the films “Insurgent,” “Allegiant,” “RED” and “R.I.P.D.” Having watched all of these works of him I can safely say that “The Time Traveler’s Wife” is his best piece whatsoever.

The story focuses on Henry DeTamble (Eric Bana,  “Troy,” “Black Hawk Down,” “Hulk,” “Chopper) who has a special gene that gives him an incredible ability. He meets his future wife, Clare Abshire (Rachel McAdams,  “The Notebook,” “Southpaw,” “Midnight in Paris,” “Mean Girls”) in a Chicago library. However, she knows more about him because she has met him many times in the past.

The storyline unravels through Henry’s unique ability that travels you through it. Eric Bana is the main reason the whole romance of the film is so moving and surprising. Although it is a movie based on the romantic element, the sci-fi aspect of it is what makes it interesting. You might have seen many other films focused on time travel, and yet this one makes it better than any other one. It establishes a unique connection between the two main characters that is determining all the feelings you must experience for these two.

Of course, both actors are fantastic, and the chemistry between them is crystal clear. However, the questions that arise when it comes to such an ability like this are all being explored in the film. But, they are not the cliché ones that focus on what happens if you mess this up. You do not want something like this to get mixed up in a romantic film. There are other more important questions the movie focuses on that determine the story between the two protagonists. And then there is the most important one: Is it really better if you know who is your soul mate before you meet him?

A heartbreaking romantic film that has a dosage of the sci-fi element in it, “The Time Traveler’s Wife” is a must-watch film you should definitely add to your list. Watch it and experience its beauty that hides behind this complicated romantic relationship.

I will be back next Friday with another one of my favorite movies that you must watch.

Until then, leave your comments below and let us know what your thoughts on this movie are and if you enjoyed watching it.
