Lock all your doors and windows and prepare for another home-invasion film that is nothing like the others.
The claustrophobic film that is combining “Don’t Breathe” and “The Strangers,” “Hush” is the 2016 thriller movie that will test your patience and quick thinking at the same time. Mike Flanagan is exceeding his limits again by directing and writing yet another horror film that truly deserves more attention than any other movie of its kind. He is also the mastermind behind “Ouija: Origin of Evil,” “Oculus,” “Before I Wake,” and the breathtaking, brand-new, Netflix horror TV-Show “The Haunting of Hill House.”
Maddie (Kate Siegel, “Gerald’s Game,” “Oculus,” “Ouija: Origin of Evil,” “The Haunting of Hill House”) is a deaf young writer who moved to the woods to live a more solitary life. One night, a masked killer attempts to break into her house to harm her. How will she fight against him to escape this hell?
Being deaf and living alone in the woods is definitely not a clever combination especially if you are also a woman. When you are -on top of that- deaf, you should never try to isolate yourself in any place a psycho can easily access. For Maddie, though, being deaf is not a problem as long as you are smart and resourceful. Moreover, the film successfully combines the survival instinct any human being has with the tension and suspense needed in a movie related with a home invasion.
Even though we have already watched tons of home-invasion movies after “The Strangers” and “The Purge,” “Hush” is another one of its kind that fully serves its purpose. For the horror fans, this movie comes to show you that you have not seen it all. To top it all off, Kate Siegel –who has also co-written “Hush” along with Flanagan- manages to put you in her shoes and make you experience every bit of anxiety and terror she is going through trying to fight the psychopathic killer.
“Hush” is the perfect film for you, especially if you are still in the Halloween mood. It is a treat that will definitely do the trick until the next Halloween. Remember: always be careful and make sure you lock all your doors and windows at night. You never know what kind of a lunatic might try to harm you.
I will be back next Friday with another one of my favorite movies that you must watch.
Until then, leave your comments below and let us know what your thoughts on this movie are and if you enjoyed watching it.
