A missing child, a desperate father, and the astounding performances of two excellent actors are precisely what you need to watch for this weekend.
“Prisoners” is the 2013 mystery film, which involves two missing children and the fight the girl’s father is giving to solve the mystery. The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve, who is also responsible for various other masterpieces like “Sicario,” “Blade Runner 2049,” “Enemy,” and “Arrival.” For me, this is the best among his works mentioned above.
Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman, “Logan,” “Les Misérables,” “The Prestige,” “The Fountain”) loses his mind when his daughter and her friend go missing. Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal, “Brokeback Mountain,” “Donnie Darko,” “Demolition,” “Zodiac”) is heading the investigation without much luck. Desperate to find his daughter, Dover will take the matter into his own hands. But, how far is he willing to go to protect his family?
The powerful duo of Jackman and Gyllenhaal is what boosts this film to the top of the list of my favorite ones. The dynamic of this couple, the incredible acting, and the chemistry between these two actors are only some of the reasons you will feel entirely stunned by. The storyline of the film is something, but when you watch these two going through all of these, the story gets more meaning. Jackman’s fatherhood acts are depicting the true feelings any father in his shoes would have when experiencing something like this. Gyllenhaal, on the other hand, is the kind detective who fully understands Jackman’s reactions to the situation and handles everything right.
You must have watched many films centered on missing children, but none of them are as good as this one. Denis Villeneuve has, once again, put all his mastery on this movie creating yet another masterpiece worth watching. The story is more focused on the depths a parent can reach in order to keep his family safe than the investigation of a missing case. And, no one can guess the outcome until the very end only because the film wants you to doubt everything.
If you are not familiar with this Villeneuve masterpiece, it is high time you watched “Prisoners.” Get ready to feel the tension building slowly inside of you through the performance of two single actors and a mystery you will not be able to solve on your own.
I will be back next Friday with another one of my favorite movies that you must watch.
Until then, leave your comments below and let us know what your thoughts on this movie are and if you enjoyed watching it.
